About this event

At Lacey Green English Hub, we believe that EVERY child deserves the opportunity to learn to read. To support this mission, we are offering a free virtual training event for Governors from all schools, designed to provide essential knowledge, confidence, and practical tools to support and challenge reading provision in your setting.

This session will help you understand your strategic role in supporting Phonics and Early Reading and how this aligns with the Department for Education’s expectations.

What the Training Will Cover:

During the session, we will explore:

  • The DfE Reading Framework and what it means for schools

  • What Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) is and how it’s delivered effectively

  • The role of fully decodable books in early reading

  • How the Phonics/Reading Leader supports staff and pupils

  • What schools do to ensure every child becomes a fluent reader

  • How Governors can support and challenge reading provision strategically

Why Attend?

As part of the DfE-funded English Hub programme, this training is free of charge and is designed to strengthen governance and support schools in raising standards in reading and phonics.

Who Should Attend?

This session is open to Governors from all schools, particularly those with responsibility for curriculum, literacy, or pupil outcomes.

“The support we have received from Lacey Green English Hub has been invaluable. We now have a very strong team of reading teachers who love teaching phonics. The impact it has had on our children has been amazing and this year we've got the best phonics score we have ever had. We can't thank you enough.”.

Assistant Headteacher and Reading Leader- Stockport

“We have benefitted tremendously from the support of the Lacey Green English Hub in many ways. I have been upskilled as a Reading Leader and feel confident to deliver quality practice sessions and coach in RWI lessons. Our staff are very welcoming to coaching and are keen to improve with the coaching steps they have worked on. I am able to scrutinise our phonics data to ensure that we are targeting specific children and groups of children for extra support so that they keep up with their peers. Since working with the English Hub we have seen a 23% increase in our Phonics Screening Check data.”
